The exercise test can be done on either a treadmill or stationary bike and takes about 15 - 20 minutes (Allow 1 hour for warm-up and results). It takes the form of a ramp test (speed or resistance is increased every minute ) it is a submaximal test meaning you don’t have to go to your maximum heart rate to get all the data you need, however if you want to find out your true VO2 max you will have to go to max.
To get good consistent results it is necessary that you don’t eat for 3 hours prior to the test and that you haven’t done a high intensity training session in the preceding 24 hours.
The resting test is done sitting down and takes about 15 minutes. For this test you need to be fasted for 8hrs prior to the test . Results will include your resting metabolic rate and the percentage of calories you burn from fat and carbohydrate.
